Type-2 diabetes mellitus (type-2DM), as defined by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) is a confusing entity. It is the most common form of diabetes, usually associated with insulin resistance [1]. Further, diabetic nephropathy (DN) is a serious microvascular complication of type-2DM and it is a major cause of end stage renal disease (ESRD) in United States and most of the industrialized Europe. The situation is not much different in India [2]. A higher proportion of individuals with type-2DM are found to have microalbuminuria and overt nephropathy at the time of diagnosis.
